Amandine Roche is a women’s empowerment expert with more than 20 years of experience with the United Nations and European Union in conflict contexts such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti, Congo, and Libya.

Her professional experience focuses on human rights, democratization, education, freedom of expression, and gender/youth empowerment.

Inner peacekeeping for global peacekeepers

Amandine has participated in 20 peace and democratic processes around the world. Among her many roles, she has served as head of the UN Civic Education Program in Afghanistan, UN Coordinator of the Spotlight Initiative (which is the world largest program to end violence against women) in Papua New Guinea, director of UN Women and Youth empowerment program in Haiti, and was the UN responsible of Women leadership program in Central Africa Republic.

She is the founder of the Amanuddin Foundation in Kabul, which aims to develop a culture of peace and promote wellness through yoga and meditation to prisoners, women, soldiers, and kids. The Foundation runs the Torch of Light School, which enrolls 350 male and female students. She also created the Inner Peace Keeping program in the Middle East for humanitarians suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, burnout, depression and anxiety, and she gave a talk at TEDx Berkeley explaining the importance of inner peacekeeping for peacekeepers. Following the Inner Peace Keeping program, she created the Inner Peace Corps, which seeks to heal the invisible wounds of trauma, restore human dignity, and develop joy through creativity – all of which she taught to refugees in the Zaatari (video password: amandinetheportal) and Mafraq camps in Jordan.

She is an award-winning author of two books: Nomade Sur la Voie d’Ella Maillart (Arthaud/Payot, 2003, 20,000 copies sold), for which she is a received the Society of Explorers Award, the Marcel Bleustein Blanchet Award, the Guild of Adventure Grant, the Defi Jeune Grant, and the Creavenir Grant; and Flight of the Doves (Robert Laffont, 2005, 5,000 copies sold). She is also a photographer, having served as assistant to the World Press Olivier Follmi, and her pictures have been published in National Geographic, Paris Match, and Le Monde and distributed by Getty. She is a member of the elite Society of Explorers, a public speaker, social entrepreneur, hatha yoga teacher, vipassana meditation teacher and Search Inside Yourself Teacher focusing on mindfulness, emotional intelligence, compassion, and conscious leadership.

She holds a MD in International Relations and LM in Political Science (France), and an MA in Human Rights and International Law (Spain). She spent years in India learning the teachings of inner peace and non-violence from spiritual Masters such as HH Dalai Lama, Karmapa, Goenka, and Amma.
